Principal and CFO
Jessica Brede

Jessica Brede

Principal

About

As head of the Tax Advisory division, Jessica is responsible for direct client relationship management, and designing and executing customized tax strategies.  She specializes in tax planning, preparation and review for high net worth individuals and institutions. Jessica has 20 plus years in finance and extensive experience in private equity and real estate.

Jessica did her undergraduate work at Jacksonville University and the University of Georgia, where she earned BAs in finance, economics and business management. She began her career as a portfolio analyst for Florida National Bank, now part of Wachovia/Wells Fargo, then later for AT&T Universal Card Services. Subsequently, while raising her two children, Katie and Tommy, she earned another BA in accounting, and an MA (or MS?) in taxation. She joined Bridgewater in 2000.

Jessica is a certified public accountant and a member of the American Institute of CPAs. She is married to Larry, with whom she shares a recently empty nest. She has a diversity of interests and hobbies outside of work, her family and dogs being chief among them.

Fun Fact

She proved that hard work pays off. Even after seven years away from corporate America, she scored highest out of nearly 5,000 candidates in the State of Maryland CPA exam in 1999. Never doubt the tenacity and smarts of a “stay at home” mom.

Nina Mitchell

About

Nina has over 25 years of finance, tax and investment advisory experience, primarily with an elite group of professional athletes, executives and high net worth individuals. As a Bridgewater Principal, she co-leads the firm’s overall management, marketing and corporate policy. As senior member of the firm’s Investment Committee, she co-directs the company’s investment policies, recommendations and asset allocation strategies, in addition to providing personal financial planning and investment advisory services for clients.

Prior to joining Bridgewater, Nina was a Principal and co-Founder of MTX Wealth Management, LLC for eight years, and served as President of SFX Financial Advisory Management Enterprises, Inc. for five years prior. She has held other past senior executive positions at sports management companies, focusing her expertise in providing financial and investment advice to professional athletes.

Nina earned a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Maryland. She holds the Series 65 license, and is currently a non-practicing Certified Public Accountant. She is a board member of the Boomer Esiason Foundation, Arthur Ashe Learning Center and the Lymphatic Malformation Institute. She loves biking, walking, traveling and spending time with family and friends, especially her husband, Jason, and their two children.

About

Steve has more than 25 years helping families build investment portfolios.  Before joining Bridgewater, he was President, Partner and head of the Investment Committee at Maryland Capital Management for 14 years. Steve manages the Quality Growth Stock (QGS) strategy, develops portfolio management and asset allocation tactics, leads research efforts, provides overall investment models, and is responsible for making manager and fund recommendations. He also advises and is the portfolio manager for select clients.

Steve earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Hobart College in Geneva, New York. He is also a graduate of the Securities Industry Institute at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. From 1988 to 1999, Steve was a Director and Principal at Deutsche Bank Alex. Brown.

Steve is a member of the board of trustees of the St. Paul’s School for Boys, where he serves on its investment and philanthropy committees. He volunteers at Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake. He is a skier and squash player during the winter, and a tennis player and cyclist in the warmer seasons. He is married to Megan, with whom he has three children, Seth, Brad and Claire.

Fun Fact

Steve has a keen interest supporting efforts to preserve and restore the environmental integrity of our natural habitat and resources. He recently joined the board of the National Park Trust, a Rockville, MD based non-profit that provides programs to preserve and better utilize our nation’s National and State Parks.

Shellie’s experience includes over 20 years of advising individuals, families and business owners.  Her wealth management and financial planning expertise provides valued insights and recommendations in such areas as: cash flow analysis, risk management, estate and trust planning, investment management, and charitable planning strategies.  She serves a core group of the firm’s clients, overseeing all aspects of the relationship. Working alongside the firm’s leadership, Shellie develops and delivers holistic integrated wealth management strategies.

This customized high-touch support helps our clients to define and articulate their goals while allowing us to create structures to improve desired outcomes. Shellie earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New York. In addition to consulting and advisory roles, she has held a variety of management positions, including tenure at Wilmington Trust, N.A. and Deloitte Investment Advisors. She holds the Series 65 license and is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner. Shellie has also served as a member, treasurer and/or director of a number of volunteer organizations. Married with two children, Shellie enjoys spending time with her family, reading, traveling and more traveling.

She founded The Boston Philanthropic Advisors Roundtable, a multidisciplinary organization to share ideas, educate and connect like-minded professionals in the Boston area.

Jessica works with the Director of Financial Planning on client financial plans. Jessica serves as an investment advisor to a select group of clients. She is also the point of contact for a select group of clients, monitoring portfolio performance, producing quarterly reports and preparing portfolio review materials.

She began her career as a Grants Management Specialist at the National Institutes of Health. She later worked as an Economist at the Bureau of Economic Analysis. Jessica holds a BA in economics, government and politics from University of Maryland. She holds a Series 65 license.

Kim leads operations and oversees compliance. With 18 years of industry experience, she skillfully manages and supports all associated teams within both areas, and ensures that all processes run smoothly.

Kim has a BA in Psychology from Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire. She loves spending time with her husband and two sons.

Fun Fact

Kim is involved in organizing the in-house conscious leadership program, including planning and supporting quarterly events and leading weekly discussion groups.

About

Queen works directly with the Chief Investment Officer and the investment team.  As the client day-to-day contact, she handles cash management, wire transfers, and other required paperwork. She reviews quarterly reports, monitors portfolio performances, and prepares client review meetings.

Queen holds a BS in Accounting from Hunter College. After college, she combined her accounting/financial knowledge with her interest in community empowerment to serve nonprofits. She volunteered with the IRS VITA program, where she helped the elderly and underprivileged individuals with their taxes. She was an accounting intern at the Rohde Foundation, an international social justice organization that provides healthcare and hope in rural Africa.

She lived in five different countries and she speaks four languages.

Christopher Johnson

Chris works directly with clients in collaboration with CIO Stephen Schuler. With expertise in financial markets and investment strategy, he manages day-to-day investment advisory relationships, oversees client financial overviews, performs ongoing portfolio analysis, makes asset allocation recommendations, and leads investment research and due diligence.

Chris has a BA in Economics and Government from Georgetown University and an MBA in Finance from the University of Maryland. He was an institutional investment analyst for Cambridge Associates before joining Bridgewater. Chris holds the Series 65 license.

A Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan, Chris attends Georgetown basketball games whenever he can.

Jeff supports the  Investment Advisory Team as the day-to-day contact for a select group of clients, monitoring portfolio performance, producing quarterly reports and preparing for client review meetings. He works with the Chief Investment Officer and advisors to provide analytical and financial planning support to the Director of Financial Planning.

Jeff holds a BS in Finance with a minor in Communications from the University of Arizona in Tucson. Outside of work, you’ll find him at the gym, a hockey rink or a live music venue.

Founder and heart and soul of Bridgewater with more than 30 years industry experience, Ron provides expert financial and investment planning, tax advisory and financial management services to a diverse group of individuals, families, athletes, entrepreneurs and entertainers. He takes a personal interest in all his clients, many of whom have been with him since before he founded his public accounting firm in 1987 and Bridgewater as a boutique wealth management firm in 1996. Since merging the two and taking on a handful of top of industry partners, Ron delights in serving an ever expanding client base, and building more rich and enduring relationships.

Ron is a graduate of the University of Maryland. He is a founding board member, treasurer and CFO of The Boomer Esiason Foundation, and a board member of Monument Bank. He is a past president of the Mid-Atlantic Region of the Starlight Children’s Foundation, and currently serves as the outsourced CFO for the National Fluid Milk Processor’s “Got Milk” campaign. He is a member of the board of trustees for Kol Shalom. When he’s not working, Ron is enjoying his family, his music, running, golfing, fishing and skiing.

He and his family participate in an annual mission trip that supports Jovenes En Camino, an organization helping young homeless children in Honduras.

Jake Weinreb

Jake researches financial markets and runs analyses for client holdings. He performs in-depth research on the proprietary Quality Growth Stock portfolio including preparing company reports on stocks, developing and updating watch lists, and participating in conference calls. He conducts analysis and due-diligence on mutual funds and private investment funds.

Jake holds a B.S. in Mathematics and Economics from American University. Pre-Bridgewater, Jake interned at the Department of Homeland Security, Office of the Chief Financial Advisor; and Hall Capital Partners.
Jake's greatest interest is in the analysis and synthesis of macro financial data into actionable investment theses.

In June 2014, Jake completed the CFA Level 1 exam and he plans to become a Chartered Financial Analyst in the near future.

Jake is most relaxed at the beach and his first job was as a lifeguard at a swimming pool.

As a certified public accountant for more than 30 years, Ann is the consummate tax professional—an expert on the tax code and all its ramifications. She has been a tax specialist for Bridgewater since 1984, working with a full range of clients, including individuals, trusts, real estate and all other partnerships.

Ann’s depth of knowledge, experience and expertise in tax planning, preparation and review is an invaluable asset to her clients. In house, she serves as a mentor and advocate for the younger employees and those just starting out in their careers.

Ann earned a bachelor of science degree in business from the University of Maryland. She earned her CPA in 1981. Married with four children, Ann genuinely enjoys the level of engagement, fast pace and adrenaline that’s freely on tap during tax season.

Fun Fact

Ann is a Baltimore Orioles, Maryland basketball and Beatles fan. She also enjoys sitting on the beach at Bethany reading a good book.

With more than seven years industry experience, Phylicia specializes in tax planning, preparation and review, with expertise pertaining to high net worth individuals and business partnerships.

Phylicia earned a  BA in Accounting from Bowie State University, and a Master’s (????) in Taxation from Golden Gate University. In her first position at CohnReznick, she worked with real estate partnerships and high net worth clients. She worked at KKS Associates for two years, preparing returns for same-sex couples, an emerging specialty area.

Phylicia has left a lasting impression on both clients and colleagues through several tax seasons as a leader, role model and supervisor. Her favorite personal pursuits include hiking, running and listening to poetry and music.

She ran track for 8 years in school, going so far as to win a collegiate championship.

Office Administrator

About

Linda has provided faithful service to Bridgewater and all of our clients since 1993. As office administrator and tax department assistant, she is an expert at organization, time management and efficient business systems. Bridgewater quite simply would not run the same without her.

She actually likes the level of energy and camaraderie during tax season, which at times can be frustrating or amusing, but is always gratifying.

When not in the office she enjoys spending time with her family, and when possible, attending any and all activities they are involved in.  Linda is married with six children, nine grandchildren, a dog and cat.

Fun Fact

Her first job was working for a lobbyist on Capitol Hill. It was definitely a different experience!

Kelly Anastasi

Kelly has more than 20 years of continuous experience and excellent service with Bridgewater. Kelly works as an outsourced controller and senior accountant with a concentrated focus in the non-profit arena. She is also an integral part of the Tax Advisory team as a tax specialist, where she prepares tax returns and is in charge of payroll taxes.

Prior to her current role, Kelly served as the firm administrator and controller.  In this role she mastered the financial and accounting skills that prepared her to serve her current clients as well as to mentor entry-level staff accountants.

Kelly enjoys spending time with her family and friends on the beach or at the mountain.

She began working for Ron Rubin when she was just 20 years old, and has been with the firm ever since.

Paul provides financial management services to individuals and families. Acting as a personal accountant, Paul manages clients’ day-to-day financial responsibilities, including bills, mortgages, budgeting, and monthly spending and cash flow reporting. He combines his accounting skills with a natural ability to anticipate future possibilities to create positive client outcomes.

He loves the diversity of his work, and prides himself in providing excellent client service. Paul holds a BS in accounting from University College at the University of Maryland.  A fitness enthusiast, when he’s not crunching numbers, he’s likely crunching his abs.

One of his favorite quotes is, “No matter how rocky the seas, the ship must come in.” Sounds like something Paul might say, don’t you think?

Nhan Chung

Nhan Chung

About

Nhan provides bookkeeping, accounting and tax support to Bridgewater’s Financial Management and Tax Advisory teams. He manages accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial statement preparation, billing review, and bank deposits and reconciliation for financial management clients. Nhan also assists with tax preparation.

Nhan holds an associates in accounting from the York Technical Institute. He worked as an accountant, loan officer, and accounting manager for a number of small businesses and organizations over the last decade.

Nhan enjoys home improvement projects, exercising, and watching football. His greatest personal achievement was finding the love of his life, Jen, and raising their two daughters, Evelyn and Caroline.

Fun Fact

Unlike most of us, Nhan does not feel frustrated when he’s behind the wheel of his car. In fact, he finds he is most relaxed when driving the streets and highways of the city.

Megan provides direct accounting support and analysis to Bridgewater’s clients, controller and managers. She manages accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial statement and report preparation, billing review, and bank deposits and reconciliation. Possessing natural math skills and a keen analytical mind, Meghan enjoys the structure and detail of the accounting process, which shows in the quality and consistency of her work.

She is currently taking classes at Northern Virginia Community College, working towards her accounting degree.

When she’s not preparing financial records or attending school, you’ll probably find Meghan snowboarding, dancing, drawing, enjoying the outdoors with family and friends, or dabbling with the guitar. She doesn’t sit around twiddling her fingers, that’s for sure!”

As senior member of the firm’s Investment Committee, she co-directs the company’s investment policies, recommendations and asset allocation strategies, in addition to providing personal financial planning and investment advisory services for clients.

Prior to joining Bridgewater, Nina was a Principal and co-Founder of MTX Wealth Management, LLC for eight years, and served as President of SFX Financial Advisory Management Enterprises, Inc. for five years prior. She has held other past senior executive positions at sports management companies, focusing her expertise in providing financial and investment advice to professional athletes.

Nina earned a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Maryland. She holds the Series 65 license, and is currently a non-practicing Certified Public Accountant. She is a board member of the Boomer Esiason Foundation, Arthur Ashe Learning Center and the Lymphatic Malformation Institute. He takes a personal interest in all his clients, many of whom have been with him since before he founded his public accounting firm in 1987 and Bridgewater as a boutique wealth management firm in 1996. Since merging the two and taking on a handful of top of industry partners, Ron delights in serving an ever expanding client base, and building more rich and enduring relationships.

Ron is a graduate of the University of Maryland. He is a founding board member, treasurer and CFO of The Boomer Esiason Foundation, and a board member of Monument Bank. He is a past president of the Mid-Atlantic Region of the Starlight Children’s Foundation, and currently serves as the outsourced CFO for the National Fluid Milk Processor’s “Got Milk” campaign. Ryan is interested in the relationship between finance and technology, and is always trying to find new and more efficient ways to incorporate the two. He has a BA in accounting from Towson University.

Bill began his career as an agricultural economist with the Trade Negotiations Division of the Foreign Agricultural Service in the U.S. Department of Agriculture. After holding positions of increasing responsibility over an 11-year period, including two overseas assignments, Bill began serving as Vice President and Director of Economics for the International Dairy Foods Association, representing the $70 billion dairy processing industry in Washington, D.C. In subsequent leadership positions with Master Dairies, Inc., and most recently, Dean Foods Company, he has played a pivotal role in shaping the dairy industry—one of the nation’s most competitive.  

He holds a B.S. in agricultural business and marketing from Rutgers University, and an M.S. in agricultural economics from the University of Maryland. Bill holds the Series 65 license.

Prior to joining Bridgewater, Nina was a Principal and co-Founder of MTX Wealth Management, LLC for eight years, and served as President of SFX Financial Advisory Management Enterprises, Inc. for five years prior. She has held other past senior executive positions at sports management companies, focusing her expertise in providing financial and investment advice to professional athletes.

He loves the diversity of his work, and prides himself in providing excellent client service. Paul holds a BS in accounting from University College at the University of Maryland.  A fitness enthusiast, when he’s not crunching numbers, he’s likely crunching his abs.

Bill leads and manages Bridgewater’s client expansion by identifying growth opportunities, and introducing new clients to the benefits of professional investment advising and financial management. Bill brings a reputation for honesty, integrity and excellence to his role, as well as nearly 40 years of experience developing key business relationships as an economist, U.S. diplomat, federal lobbyist, industry spokesperson and senior government relations executive.

Bill began his career as an agricultural economist with the Trade Negotiations Division of the Foreign Agricultural Service in the U.S. Department of Agriculture. After holding positions of increasing responsibility over an 11-year period, including two overseas assignments, Bill began serving as Vice President and Director of Economics for the International Dairy Foods Association, representing the $70 billion dairy processing industry in Washington, D.C. In subsequent leadership positions with Master Dairies, Inc., and most recently, Dean Foods Company, he has played a pivotal role in shaping the dairy industry—one of the nation’s most competitive.  

He holds a B.S. in agricultural business and marketing from Rutgers University, and an M.S. in agricultural economics from the University of Maryland. Bill holds the Series 65 license.

He was one of the people behind the nationally acclaimed “milk mustache” advertising campaign, organizing industry support for it as the first industry-wide $110 million promotional program for fluid milk.

Jake Weinreb

Jake researches financial markets and runs analyses for client holdings. He performs in-depth research on the proprietary Quality Growth Stock portfolio including preparing company reports on stocks, developing and updating watch lists, and participating in conference calls. He conducts analysis and due-diligence on mutual funds and private investment funds.

Jake holds a B.S. in Mathematics and Economics from American University. Pre-Bridgewater, Jake interned at the Department of Homeland Security, Office of the Chief Financial Advisor; and Hall Capital Partners.
Jake's greatest interest is in the analysis and synthesis of macro financial data into actionable investment theses.

In June 2014, Jake completed the CFA Level 1 exam and he plans to become a Chartered Financial Analyst in the near future.

Fun Fact

Jake is most relaxed at the beach and his first job was as a lifeguard at a swimming pool.

With more more than 18 years of financial planning, budgeting and investment portfolio management experience, Tony works with professional athletes and high net worth individuals. He is responsible for financial planning, meeting preparation, cash management, monetary transfers and client services. Tony is an important member of our Financial management team where he helps with investment implementations, financial budgeting, estate planning and portfolio tracking in service to our clients.Tony earned a bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Maryland. His first industry position was inputting trades at the investment firm Legg Mason. Directly prior to joining Bridgewater, he was Operations Manager at MTX Wealth Management.

Tony holds a Series 65 license. He volunteers for the Special Olympics, and is an avid camper and golfer. He enjoys relaxing in nature with his wife and son.

Fun Fact

He served 22 years in the U.S. Navy, where he was responsible for training military assault units deploying overseas.
